Formation & Strengthening of Community Based Organization (CBO):
Women SHGs: The name “Lok Prerna” is the combination of two hindi words, where “Lok” means the “People” and “Prerna” means the Inspiration”. So the name of the organization says that, it is an organization willing to inspire people for their self sustain and since the last eighteen years, it is very proud to say that the organization is fully committed to strengthen the human rights and to improve the accessibility of the community towards their entitlements for their self sustainability.
From the inception period, Lok Prerna felt that, until and unless community people become organized, the dream of a society free from all kind of exploitation and discrimination will be a dream for ever. So, the organization adopted the process of formation and strengthening of Community Based Organization (CBO) in the rural area as the main theme to make the community more powerful. But as the organization is devoted to empower the lowest rungs of the society, so, the organization gave special emphasis to organize the women of the society first seeing that the women are in the heart of the family, community and in the total ecological system too, but on the other hand, women are the most marginal and vulnerable group of all the social segments in this patriarchal social order. |

Health:
In the un-divided Bihar, when Jharkhand was the south Bihar, since that period, the health indicator of this state is very low due to the unawareness of the rural poor people about the basic health and hygiene practices and also for the use of the traditional health measures. On the one hand, most of the poor people could not able to arrange even two meals per day through out the year, on the other hand. Due to the unawareness of the basic health and hygiene practices, they
often caught by so many different endemic diseases like malaria, kala-azar, diarrhea, tuberculosis and they had to spend their money for the treatment of the diseases and some time, even they compelled to accept credit from the local money lenders on a high rate of interest which they usually can not able to pay, thus, continue to be in the extreme poverty forever. The contradict starts when they sink into the extreme poverty and due the sickness not sufficiently fit to do any work. That way, poor becomes poorest in all these areas. |

Child Education and Child Rights:
Children are the backbone of any society- Lok Prerna is a believer of this principle, too. On the
other hand, one third of the total population of India is children, still the children of India are the most disadvantaged, underprivileged sub population of India and the Jharkhand state not an exceptional case, too. Though, India adopted the policy of Child Right of Education and establish atleast one primary school in every large village, still the total literacy rate in the Jharkhand state is as low as 38.9% only (2001 census) while in Deoghar district this rate is still lower to be 32.3%. The one reason behind this is the conditions for successful learning are conceivably awful in the area of primary education. Usually the teacher’s student’s ration in the primary school is 1:55, but the majority of these teachers are neither highly qualified nor they took any initiative to regularize student in the school by adopting joyful learning methods. |

Livelihood:
Indian economy mainly depends on the agricultural productivity and (undivided) Bihar was not an exception in that term. Still the main source of income of most of the rural people is depends on the agriculture. But in the case of the undivided Bihar, it was found that, most of the farmers possess less than a half hector of land which is not sufficient to produce the adequate food for a family for the whole year. On the other hand,
water crisis for the irrigation is one of the biggest problems of this state which is another cause of the less agricultural productivity of this state. In addition to that, the community hasn’t any other alternative income generation option. So, from the all context, the security of food supply for through out the year in any rural poor family hardly found. And with out securing the livelihood of any poor family, it is simply impossible to ensure their Health, education or other rights. Lok Prerna also very much aware of this fact. So, in the very beginning of the organization, Lok Prerna started to take initiative first to secure the livelihood of the poor and marginal rural peoples. |

Natural Resource Management:
It is in the objective of Lok Prerna that motivating and promoting people to protect and nurture
their environment, which could contribute the shares in building up a world, which is maintained as if giving home for all the people of today and tomorrow. Accordingly, one of the major belief of the organization is also that the maintaining ecological balance is equally important with the maintenance of balance growth of the society as people can only alive when a good ecological balance is maintained in the environment- so since the initiation of the organization, Lok Prerna gives a special emphasis on the bio-diversity conservation in its targeted areas. Since the Bihar was undivided, the operation area of Lok Prerna is surrounded by the forest and most of the targeted community of Lok Prerna belongs to the tribal who are dependent on the nature mostly for their bread and butter. The consequence of that dependency on the forest is the deputation of the forest over the period at an alarming rate.
